2012 Vendys: Best in truck food

Falafel, arepas, ribs, cupcakes... Check out the lineup of competitors coming to the second annual cook-off of mobile vendors on July 28.

If you've been around Penn's campus, Temple's campus, or LOVE Park, or one of the recent Night Markets, you know that the Philly food-truck scene has exploded.

You'll want to check out the second annual Vendys, coming to University City on July 28. There, a dozen of the city's best trucks - nominated by patrons - will compete for prizes and bragging rights. And beer is included in admission.

The Philly Vendys, benefiting the Food Trust, are an offshoot of the Urban Justice Center's Street Vendor Project, which began in New York in 2005.

The battle is set for Saturday, July 28, 3 to 7 p.m. at The Lot @ 39th and Market.

Tickets for the Philadelphia Vendys, which is all-you-can-eat and includes beer and wine, can be purchased at http://phillyvendys2012.eventbrite.com for $55 in advance and $60 day of event.

Here are the competitors. Click for photos and info.
