The NBA has fined Ben Simmons $20,000 and assessed a flagrant 1 foul for contact made with the groin area of Kyle Lowry during Game 3.

The incident occurred after jockeying for rebounding position ended with Simmons on the ground and Lowry standing over him in the second quarter of the Sixers 116-95 win over the Raptors on Thursday. Simmons then raised his left elbow between Lowry’s legs, making contact.

The officials did not call a foul and play continued with Lowry falling to the ground and remaining for several seconds.

Though it was clear to many at the time that this was a missed call and one that would obviously be reviewed by the league, Lowry downplayed the incident after the game.

“Nothing happened,” he said. "It was an elbow. Refs didn’t call it. It was nothing. He said he didn’t mean to do it. I’m not going to dwell on something that wasn’t called. It is what it is. It’s not a big deal.”

The league thought otherwise, handing down punishment for Simmons after reviewing the non-call. A flagrant 1 foul carries a one-point penalty in the playoffs. Once a player exceeds three points, they receive an automatic one-game suspension.
