Inquirer staff photographer Charles Fox loves basketball - especially the college version. Every spring he laments the day he has photographed his last game of the season. This year that came after covering Villanova’s loss to Purdue in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Watching the Final Four on TV at home while it was not altogether certain the 76ers would get into the NBA playoffs, he figured his basketball was done for the year. But the Sixers made it, and Fox photographed them (along with colleagues Yong Kim and Steven M. Falk) in action in Brooklyn and Toronto. It was in Philadelphia, looking beyond the action, where he made the photo (above) of Joel Embiid warming up as the smoke machines churned away inside the Wells Fargo Center.

And, oh yeah. That 15-foot Kawhi Leonard fadeaway jumper at the buzzer? The one that bounced on the rim four times before dropping into the net Sunday night for the Raptors’ win? He got that too. And Fox perfectly captured that moment when time seemed to stand still, and every face in the arena was watching it. Including, unfortunately, Sixers Ben Simmons and Embiid who had double teamed him.

That picture, along with more from the past week, as seen through the lens of our staff photojournalists, is in the gallery below.
