AKRON, Ohio - Not even Chase Utley's game-long appearance in the lineup could lift the Reading Phillies over Akron last night in the Eastern League. The Aeros won, 8-0.

Utley, playing his third game as part of a major-league rehabilitation stint, went 0 for 4 with a strikeout and a walk, playing the entire game at second base.

He was 1 for 10 in the three games, with the walk and two strikeouts.

Bobbie Brownlie went five innings and got the win.

TRENTON - Chase Wright scattered four singles in a complete-game shutout as the Thunder beat the Mets to clinch a spot in the Eastern League playoffs for the third consecutive season.

Wright allowed singles in the fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth innings. It was the first nine-inning complete-game shutout by a Trenton pitcher since Tyler Clippard's no-hitter on Aug. 17, 2006.

Thunder righthander Alan Horne, who will be on the mound today, was named the EL pitcher of the year.

The 24-year-old is 12-4 with a league-leading 2.97 ERA, while striking out 158 batters and walking 51 in 142.1 innings.
