Coatesville's Woodall stands out at state track meet

Coatesville's Kenya Woodall ran in an unseeded heat of the 400 meters but still managed to beat the best in the state at the Pennsylvania Track Coaches Association's indoor state championships on Saturday at Penn State.

Woodall sped to a time of 55.88 seconds, which is the fastest in the state this winter and the sixth-best time in the country.

In other girls' highlights, Notre Dame's distance medley team set a meet record of 12:04.79, and Abington's Jordan Matthews successfully defended her long jump title.

Germantown Academy's Megan McCloskey needed a jumpoff to break a tie with Upper Dublin's Taylor Morgan in the high jump after each cleared 5 feet, 8 inches. Quakertown's Jody-Ann Evans won the 60 dash in a state-best 7.47 this season.

In the boys' competition, Strath Haven edged Penn Wood for the team title, and Chestnut Hill's Dustin Wilson ran the second-fastest 3,000 in the country this season in winning in 8:39.41.

Eric Futch won the 200 in 21.60 and helped Penn Wood win the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, including a US No. 2 time of 1:29.02 in the 4x200.
