Villanova should find out Tuesday the extent of the damage to quarterback John Robertson's right knee when the results of Monday's MRI are revealed.

Robertson, a fifth-year senior and 2014's top player in Football Championship Subdivision, left Saturday's 28-21 win over Delaware in the fourth quarter after suffering the injury.

After the game, coach Andy Talley said he believed the injury was to the posterior cruciate ligament. However, there are concerns that the injury could be worse and might require surgery.

The No. 5-ranked Wildcats came into the season expecting huge things from Robertson, who last season passed for 2,846 yards and 35 touchdowns and ran for 1,078 yards and 11 touchdowns. Through three games this season, he passed for 522 yards, threw three touchdowns and one interception. He rushed for 138 yards and three scores.

Thursday against Penn, the Wildcats will turn to redshirt freshman Zack Bednarczyk. Bednarczyk stepped in for Robertson against Delaware and led the Wildcats to a fourth-quarter come-from-behind win, completing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Gulyas and scampering for a 21-yard touchdown with 2 minutes, 35 seconds left in the game.

Bednarczyk's performance helped him win the Colonial Athletic Association's freshman of the week award. Bednarczyk completed 4-of-6 passes for 57 yards in the win.

"I believe I'm ready to make a contribution," Bednarczyk said Monday. "I'm confident."

After Thursday's game, Villanova doesn't play again until hosting William & Mary on Oct. 10.
