Duke women top Vols to remain unbeaten

The Blue Devils started the year 20-0 for the second straight season and got victory No. 20 by handing Tennessee only its 17th loss in Thompson-Boling Arena, which opened in 1987.

Early on it looked as if could be the worst loss ever for the Vols in their home arena, but Tennessee (17-2) rallied from as many as 21 points down in the first half to tie the same at 48 with 10 minutes, 48 seconds remaining.

Duke then ran its lead back to nine, but Tennessee kept chipping away.

Oklahoma 86, Texas Tech 81 - Backup point guard Kendra Moore scored 13 of her career-high 20 points in extra time to help Oklahoma (16-1, 6-0 Big Twelve) beat Texas Tech (12-8, 3-3) in Norman, Okla.

Courtney Paris recorded her 45th straight double-double, finishing with 22 points and 17 rebounds for Oklahoma.

But during the overtimes, Moore became the Sooners' go-to player. With the game tied 81-81, it was Paris handing the ball off to Moore on a pick-and-roll and Moore slicing through the lane for a layup with 34.4 seconds left.

Massachusetts 49, La Salle 47 - The Explorers (15-5, 3-2 Atlantic Ten) fell to the Minutewomen (11-9, 1-4) in Amherst, Mass., when Alisha Tathem hit two foul shots with 2.1 seconds left to play.

Carlene Hightower scored 12 points for La Salle and Crista Ricketts scored 10. Melanie Gibbons grabbed 11 rebounds.

University of the Sciences 68, Georgian Court 48 - Shelby Rance scored 19 points to lead the Devils (11-6) over the Lions (3-15) in West Philadelphia.

Gwynedd Mercy 72, Eastern 27 - Ashley Vandiver scored 10 points, including her 1,000th of her career, as the Griffins (14-2) won at home over Eastern (1-14), which got 12 points from Raya Shores.

Cabrini 77, Cedar Crest 40 - Nikki Duggan scored 17 points to lead the Cavaliers (11-5) over the Falcons (0-11) in Allentown.

Philadelphia University 80, West Chester 61 - Meg Abele had 22 points for Philadelphia University (11-5) in a nonconference win over the Golden Rams (6-10) in West Chester. Dominique Lewis scored her 1,000th point for West Chester, which got 17 points from Katie Kline.

Salisbury 66, Rowan 56 - Lauren Byrne scored 15 points for the Profs (8-9) in a loss to the Sea Gulls (10-7) in Glassboro.

Men

Oklahoma State 66, Oklahoma 61 -

Byron Eaton scored 17 points and David Monds added 11 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 13 Oklahoma State (17-3, 3-2 Big Twelve) hold off Oklahoma (11-7, 3-3) in Stillwater.

David Godbold and Austin Johnson sandwiched three-pointers around a pair of missed free throws by Oklahoma State's JamesOn Curry to close a seven-point gap to 62-61 with 25.9 seconds left.

Mario Boggan hit two free throws after being fouled following the ensuing inbounds pass, and walk-on Tyler Hatch hit two more with four seconds to play.

Louisville 68, Connecticut 54 - David Padgett scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Louisville raced by reeling Connecticut in Louisville.

Terrence Williams added 18 points and nine rebounds and Juan Palacios scored 16 points for the Cardinals (14-6, 4-2 Big East), who have won four of five.

A.J. Price led Connecticut (13-6, 2-4) with 17 points, but the Huskies shot just 36 percent from the floor while losing their third straight game and sixth in eight.

St. Francis (N.Y.) 69, Monmouth 57 - Robert Hines scored 20 points, 10 in the final 41/2 minutes, to lead St. Francis over Monmouth in New York.

Allan Sheppard scored 19 points for the Terriers (5-16, 3-6 Northeast), who held a 34-29 lead at the half. Jamaal Womack added 16 points.
