* Began his journalism career at Phildadelphia's Evening Bulletin before moving to the Daily News in 1965.

* Took over as the Phillies' beat writer in 1966 and held that job for 21 seasons, also serving as NL columnist for The Sporting News.

* In 1987 became a columnist for the Daily News, a position he still holds.

* Also has covered Wimbledon and the Olympics.

* Inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

* Was selected for the prestigious Lew Klein Alumni in the Media award by Temple University and will become the newest member of Temple's School of Communications and Theater Alumni Hall of Fame in the fall.
