Letters: Hal Lear was 'a good guy'

'A good guy'

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hal Lear ("A great man," Monday). Not only was he an all-American basketball player at Temple University, but he was also a wonderful person and friend.

"Baldie," as some of his friends called him, was my teammate on the 1951 Overbrook High School varsity baseball team and an associate at Opportunities Industrialization Center.

During our last conversation, when he lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., he still remembered and talked about the old days at the "Brook."

We've all lost a good guy.
