Police: 84-year-old man drives on Camden sidewalk killing girl on bike

The incident happened around 4:20 p.m. on 5th and State streets in Camden, according to police.

An 8-year-old girl riding her bike on a Camden sidewalk was struck and killed Thursday by an 84-year-old driver, according to police.

The Camden County Police Department responded around 4:20 p.m. to the accident scene near 5th Street and State streets where they said the male driver had driven a car onto the sidewalk.

The car flipped, striking the girl. It also struck a 40-year-old man who lived nearby.

The girl was taken to Cooper University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.  The 40-year-old was injured and listed as in stable condition.

The driver is also listed in stable condition at Cooper, according to Camden County spokesperson Dan Keashen.

No charges have yet been filed and the accident remains under investigation.   The Camden County Prosecutor's Office expects to release more details Friday.
