A loaded handgun hidden in a booth at the Kool Bar on East Lincoln Highway was among the discoveries during a multiagency "bar sweep" that resulted in 19 arrests on Saturday, Coatesville police said yesterday.

As part of a continuing crackdown on crime in Coatesville, about 45 officers visited five drinking establishments, three of which - the Kool Bar, JB's Web, and Midway Bar & Grill - were charged with "a variety of violations," said Coatesville Police Chief Julius M. Canale 2d.

Charges against the 19 individuals included illegal possession of a loaded firearm and outstanding summary warrants.

The law enforcement team, anchored by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, included members of the Coatesville and Valley Township Police Departments, the Chester County Sheriff's Office, and the state Board of Probation and Parole, Canale said. He said more sweeps were planned. - Kathleen Brady Shea
