Chester County's historic Mortonville Bridge in East Fallowfield Township reopened yesterday after a nearly 10-month rehabilitation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.

Work on the 1826 stone-arch bridge over the west branch of Brandywine Creek on Strasburg Road included reconstructing and repointing the arches and walls, replacing and slightly widening the deck, and resurfacing the road, PennDot said.

The Mortonville Bridge carried 6,200 vehicles a day and was posted with a 15-ton weight restriction before its reconstruction; the weight restriction has been eliminated. Local officials plan to hold a dedication ceremony later this year, the agency said. - Kathleen Brady Shea
