10-year term for attempt to get ex-husband killed

A Monmouth County woman who tried to hire an undercover state trooper to kill her ex-husband was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in state prison. Diane M. Oakley, 49, of Upper Freehold Township, was sentenced under the No Early Release Act, meaning that she must serve 85 percent of her term without parole.

A jury convicted Oakley in October of attempted murder and conspiracy. Prosecutors said Oakley, a former telecommunications systems analyst in the Office of the State Judiciary, provided a $1,000 down payment to an undercover trooper for the murder of her ex-husband, John, in November 2004.

She agreed to pay the detective $25,000 after the killing was completed, which was to be from proceeds of a $100,000 life insurance policy, according to the Attorney General's Office, which prosecuted the case. - AP
