Powerball jackpot is game’s 4th biggest ever

Powerball is making another run at the record books, with its fourth biggest jackpot ever.

Fourth biggest annuity: $400 million.

Fourth most cash: $227.78 million.

The cash could be called the "real" jackpot. Colorado's Eugene and Stanislawa Markiewicz were the last winners to take the annuity, back in October 2007.

The jackpot rolled over Saturday night, when nobody matched all the numbers drawn: 2, 9, 14, 21 and 23, with a Powerball of 3.

Ten tickets matched the first five numbers. A Texas ticket won $2 million for also having the Power Play prize multiplier option. The other nine tickets won $1 million apiece.  Florida and Michigan each sold two, while Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Georgia and Iowa each sold one.

Whether the jackpot is likely to be revised upward before Wednesday's drawing will depend on sales.

In August, a Powerball jackpot at first estimated as also worth $400 million, wound up at a little less: $399.4 million.

Powerball has never had a jackpot this big roll over, so if no one hits, the game might challenge its all-time record, $590.5 million, set last May. That jackpot skyrocketed after a $350 million top prize failed to be hit.

Mega Millions jackpot rises. Tuesday's jackpot will be worth $154 million for the annuity, $84 million for the cash, because no one matched all the numbers drawn Friday night. They were 20, 28, 35, 71 and 72, with a Mega Ball of 7. Two tickets matched the first five numbers. The New York one is worth $1 million, the California one $897,177, under that state's pari-mutuel system.
