A Delaware teen is accused of fatally shooting his grandfather Monday night.

John Rash, 17, was arguing with his grandfather, 84-year-old Charles Semans, around 6:20 p.m. inside a home in the Willow Grove area of Kent County, state police said.

Rash allegedly retrieved a shotgun and shot Semans once in the stomach. Semans was rushed to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital then airlifted to Christiana Medical Center. He succumbed to his injuries Thursday, according to investigators.

Rash was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, police said. He remains jailed at Stevenson House Detention Center in lieu of $40,000 secured bond.

An autopsy of Semans' body determined his cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to investigators. The manner of death has not been determined, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the argument that allegedly sparked the fatal shooting. Police said homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
