Teen poets interested in testing their creative mettle against their peers have a chance to shine - the Teen Poetry Slam at Tredyffrin Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The poetry slam - which will pit 15 local poets against each other with random audience members grading each performance - will be hosted by members of the Excelano Project, the University of Pennsylvania's poetry slam group.
"It really is a very high-energy evening," said Gretchen Chamberlin, assistant director of the library, who has helped organize the slam. "It's not a reading, it's a competition, and people are encouraged throughout the night that, if they like something, to let their energy be known. These kids do some amazing stuff."
The library will re-open at 7:30 on Saturday night for the slam, and will include food, prizes, and performances by members of the Excelano Project. Contestants must register in advance by calling 610-688-7092, visiting adlibonline.org/teens.asp, or emailing gchamberlin@ccls.org.
