Sixer missing $110,000 of bling

Just after the team's loss to the Toronto Raptors on Jan. 15, one of the newest Sixers discovered he had lost $110,000 of custom bling.

Joe Smith, 31, told police that at least four pieces of jewelry were missing from his room at the Hilton Hotel on City Avenue.

He went to Southwest Detectives at 55th and Pine Streets on Thursday and reported that a couple of necklaces and a custom-made medallion vanished between 11 a.m., when he left the hotel, and 10:30 p.m.

"No, I wasn't robbed. I just had some things misplaced, but I wasn't robbed," Smith said after yesterday's Sixers practice.

Police said that there had been no forced entry into the room, and that the items had not been secured in a safe. They did not have any reports of thefts from the hotel that day and were continuing their investigation.

Police did not know the reason for the delay in reporting the missing jewelry.

The Sixers acquired Smith in December with Andre Miller and two 2007 draft picks from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Allen Iverson and Ivan McFarlin.
