Tony noms announced

In a wildly unpredictable year for the Tony Awards, a real Philadelphia guy and an honorary one scored nominations for their 2013-14 turns on Broadway. Meadowbrook native (close enough) and Germantown Academy grad Jarrod Specter ('99) is up for best featured actor in a musical for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Andy Karl, star of Rocky, contends for leading actor in a musical.

Nominees, announced Tuesday, for new musicals are A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, Beautiful, After Midnight, and Aladdin. Best new-play nods went to Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein, Act One by James Lapine, Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley, Terrence McNally's Mothers and Sons (which previewed at the Bucks County Playhouse), and All the Way by Robert Schenkkan. - Rebecca Klock

Philly guy inks CD deal

The seriously talented Philadelphia songwriter BC Camplight - real name Brian Christinzio - is heard daily in the theme for WHYY-FM's Newsworks Tonight. But in 2011, he decamped to Manchester, England, to work on his third album. Now he has signed a record deal with Bella Union, U.K. home to the Flaming Lips and Beach House, among others. The label will release How to Die in the North internationally this year. Christinzio calls it "without a doubt the record I've been waiting my whole life to make." He'll tour Europe and the U.S. through 2015.

Tiny little tiny bits of tiny

Audra McLaughlin of Glenolden cleared another hurdle on NBC's The Voice singing contest, reaching the final eight Tuesday night. . . . Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas have split.   . . . David Arquette and Christina McLarty welcome brand-new son Charlie West. . . . There's a petition to the White House for a Jonathan Winters day. A funny idea!
