Stockton U. offers a minor in cannabis studies

Stockton University students this year can minor in marijuana.

"This is a growing industry and we want to prepare our students from a variety of viewpoints," said associate professor of biology Ekaterina Sedia, who will serve as the program coordinator. "No matter how you feel about it, [cannabis] is providing job opportunities. This is an issue that affects law, business, banking, investment, health sciences and social work."

The cannabis minor will require five courses — including Cannabis Law and Introduction to Medical Marijuana — and will include an internship with community partners, Sedia said in a statement.

Other weed topics offered at the South Jersey campus will include cannabis history and research, understanding small business operations, social justice, health, financial and economic implications for both medical and recreational use. The cannabis law class, which launches Sept. 5, is already full with 25 students registered.
