Atlantic City Air Show, ‘Jaws’ on the beach, and more things to do down the Shore

Summertime, full-time, and sometime artists contribute to this popular, juried, end-of-season show at the 70-year-old Long Beach Island Foundation for the Arts & Sciences. Opening night — on Saturday — is a little like First Friday, with a barbecue, and a tan.

Like "Rocky" on the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps, Steven Spielberg's Amity Island shark horror doesn't get a better screening venue than the Cove, Brigantine's drive-in beach. Watching from boats and inner tubes also permitted.

Cold Spring Village, greater Cape May's reenactor-filled, 19th-century rural historical site, shows off its antique charms, such as sack races, rolling hoops, and — who knew? — bocce, in two days of young America outdoor fun, which always includes an onsite nature trail and brewery.

O.C.'s notorious Wacky Wednesdays are winding down, but not before this Shriver's-sponsored saltwater candy contest pits Peewee against Pop-Pop in an all-ages battle to determine who can best transform the stickiest of sugary treats into sculpture, or something recognizable as … something.

A.C.'s loudest, neck-craning-est day of the year is a flight fanatic's must-do. The Golden Knights and Thunderbirds bookend in-air, whiz-by demos by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Lee Leet Tucano, Coast Guard's MH-65, the 6ABC chopper, and Geico Skytypers, to name a few.
