Strawberry time in Lahaska

Peddler's Village in Lahaska will celebrate spring on Saturday and Sunday with the 39th annual Strawberry Festival.

In addition to plenty of strawberries straight-up, the festival will feature creations such as chocolate-dipped strawberries, smoothies, fritters, shortcakes, pastries, and pies.

The entertainment lineup includes performances by the Daisy Jug Band from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Give Take Jugglers from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday; the '60s Sensations from 1 to 3 p.m. and the Mount Laurel Bluegrass Band from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday; and Stiltwalker from 1 to 4 p.m. both days. Visitors can compete in the Strawberry Pie Eating Contest each day at 3 p.m. on the Main Green.

New to this year's festival will be "Walking on Water" Arts from the Bayou, a show and sale of artwork from the Gulf Coast. Proceeds from the program, sponsored by the Bucks Mont Katrina Relief Project, will benefit the group's food pantry project and the Gulf Coast arts community.

The Academy of Music will fall back to the '60s this weekend with dancing, singing, and plenty of a certain beauty product with

Hairspray.

The Broadway show, recipient of numerous awards, including eight 2003 Tonys and four Oliviers, will come to Philadelphia as part of the Academy's Cadillac Broadway Series.

Five performances, including one tonight and two shows each on Saturday and Sunday, will tell the story of Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a curvy teenage girl who transforms from a social outcast to a celebrity after winning a spot on the local TV dance program

The Corny Collins Show

. The musical, based on the film written and directed by John Waters and the basis for a recent film with John Travolta, features an original score by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by both Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

National Free Comic Book Day will be held Saturday, when 2,000 stores across the country will give out free comic books to visitors.

Sesame Place opens at 9:45 Saturday when Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Sesame Street characters for the first day of the new Sunny Day Carousel. It features 30 horses with calliope sounds of Sesame Street at the park (100 Sesame Road, Langhorne).
