Offensive lineman Nick Dawkins, son of the late Darryl Dawkins, the former 76ers center, announced Monday on Twitter that he had committed to Penn State.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Dawkins, a guard at Parkland High School in Allentown, is rated at three stars by both 247Sports and Rivals. He is listed as the No. 7 prospect in Pennsylvania by 247Sports and No. 9 by Rivals.

Dawkins announced his choice on Twitter with the headline, “Mom, I’m staying home!!”

“I was going to post a top 12, but this feels right,” he said.

Dawkins, the ninth player to commit to Penn State’s Class of 2020 and the fourth offensive lineman, chose the Nittany Lions over Indiana, Northwestern, Boston College, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia.

Darryl Dawkins was drafted by the Sixers out of high school in Florida and spent 14 seasons in the NBA. He died of a heart attack at age 58 in 2015.
