It turns out Corey Brewer will remain with the 76ers at least a little while longer.

As expected, the team will sign the small forward to a second 10-day contract on Friday. A player can sign a maximum of two consecutive 10-day contracts with the same team before that squad must sign him for the remainder of the season or release him.

Brewer is averaging 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in three games with the Sixers. The 6-foot-9, 185-pounder started against the Houston Rockets on Monday and the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday in place of sidelined standout Jimmy Butler (sprained right wrist).

Brewer became a fan favorite after frustrating Rockets guard James Harden.

At one point in the second quarter, he face-guarded Harden on the ground 30 feet away from the already advanced ball. After Harden got up, Brewer acted as if the reigning MVP knocked him over in an attempt to draw an offensive foul.

His second memorable moment came after he scored on a running dunk with 29.1 seconds left in the half. Brewer immediately raced over to Harden to get ready for defense. He got up close to the six-time All-Star, positioning himself low.

As Harden tried to get position, Brewer did a good selling job while refusing to budge. Harden was called for the offensive foul and appeared to get frustrated. Moments later, the crowd started chanting “Corey Brewer! Corey Brewer! Corey Brewer!”

The sellout crowd of 20,313 chanted that again late in the game.

The 12th-year veteran had 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting in 32 minutes, 43 seconds. He also had three rebounds, two blocks, and two steals/

Brewer isn’t the prototypical 10-day-contract player. The Sixers actually signed him because of his ability to play defense and his reputation as a great locker-room guy.
