Phillies Minor League Report: Pitchers Lively, Klevin, Pinto have strong outings

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Sunday, May 24:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

A blown lead by the bullpen led to the IronPigs' six-game winning streaking ending after a 7-5 loss to the Charlotte Knights Sunday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

The IronPigs held a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh inning thanks in part to a third-inning home run from Chase d'Arnaud and a solid outing from starting pitcher Adam Morgan.

But relievers Colton Murray and Cesar Jimenez combined to cough up four runs (three earned) on seven hits during the final three innings.

Murray was handed his third blown save of the season while Jimenez was dealt his first loss. Morgan left the game after allowing only three runs on three hits during six innings of work.

Besides hitting a homer, d'Arnaud went 3-for-5 overall on the day to increase his batting average to .319 on the year.

The IronPigs will try to start a new streak at 6:35 p.m. Monday when they take on the Gwinnett Braves at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga. Anthony Vasquez (2-0, 2.05 ERA in minors) is scheduled to start for Lehigh Valley.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double-A

A strong start from pitcher Ben Lively helped the Fightin Phils stifle the Portland Sea Dogs during a 3-2 victory Sunday at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.

Lively earned his fourth victory of 2015 after allowing two runs on five hits during 5.2 innings of work. He also struck out five batters.

Adam Loewen and Nefi Ogando managed to keep Portland off the scoreboard during the final 3.1 innings to secure the victory. Ogando earned his second save of the season as a result.

The Fightin Phils recorded only seven hits Sunday with Brian Pointer leading the way by going 2-for-3. Harold Martinez posted the highlight of Sunday's game with a solo homer during the third inning.

After claiming a series victory over Portland Sunday, the Fightin Phils look to finish the series on a high note at 1 p.m. Monday. Aaron Nola (6-2, 1.54 ERA) is slated to start for Reading.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

A great outing from pitcher Colin Klevin propelled the Threshers to a series victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals by a score of 3-1 Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla.

Klevin was dominant during his six innings on the mound Sunday, as he recorded eight strikeouts while allowing only one run on two hits. He earned the victory, which was his fourth of the season. Edubray Ramos secured the victory for his third save of the year.

All of the Thresher's runs came during the seventh inning, two of which came unearned. The only earned run was credited to Chase Harris after a pitch hit him with the bases loaded.

A wild pitch from Cardinals pitcher Josh Lucas allowed Aaron Brown and Mitch Walding to cross the plate to give the Threshers their first lead of the game.

After reaching .500 for the first time since May 9, the Threshers will receive a day off Monday. They will be back on the field at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they host the Fort Myers Miracle at Bright House Field. The starters for Tuesday's game have not been announced as of this writing.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

A productive offensive display from the BlueClaws helped them earn their fourth win in five games after taking down the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 8-2, Sunday at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood Township, N.J.

The BlueClaws racked up 11 hits and received at least one RBI from six different batters, including three from Malquin Canelo. Canelo was also one of two players to finish with three hits, joining Damek Tomscha in that category.

The BlueClaws also received a strong outing on the mound from Ricardo Pinto. Pinto tossed six innings where he allowed only two runs on six hits. He also struck out five batters on his way to earning his fourth victory of the campaign.

The BlueClaws will look to continue their recent momentum when they host the second-place West Virginia Power for a three-game series, beginning at 4:05 p.m. Monday. Josh Taylor (2-3, 5.97 ERA) will take the mound for Lakewood.
