Phillies Minor League Report: Biddle strong in Reading victory

Here's how the Phillies' minor league teams fared on Friday, April 24:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs came out on the wrong side of a 7-6 slugfest with Buffalo Bisons on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

Joely Rodriguez was roughed up, allowing five runs on seven hits in just 4 ⅓ innings of work. The bullpen held until the top of the ninth inning, when Cesar Jimenez gave up two runs to take his second loss of the season.

Left fielder Brian Bogusevic and designated hitter Russ Canzler were both 2-for-4. Bogusevic drove in a run and is batting .315 on the season.

Third baseman Maikel Franco was 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Franco is batting .343 on the year.

Center fielder Jordan Danks was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Lehigh Valley is back in action Saturday against Buffalo at 6:35 p.m. Righty Chad Billingsley (0-0, 3.24 ERA) is scheduled to make a rehab start for the IronPigs.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double-A

The Fightin Phils were able to get back into the win column Friday, with a 7-4 victory against the Harrisburg Senators at Metro Bank Park.

Jesse Biddle earned his second win of the season, striking out four and surrendering three runs on four hits in 5 ⅓ innings of work.

Stephen Shackleford recorded his second save of the season, pitching ⅔ of an inning in scoreless relief.

First baseman Art Charles was on fire, going 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles and a walk for Reading.

Center fielder Roman Quinn was 1-for-5 with a run scored and is batting .375 on the season.

Second baseman Carlos Alonso was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Fightin Phils continue their series with Harrisburg on Saturday at 6 p.m. Righty Zach Eflin (2-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Reading.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

The Threshers rallied back from a three-run deficit Friday night to defeat the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 8-4, at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla.

Colin Kleven earned his first win on the season, striking out three and surrendering three runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

The Clearwater bullpen used four pitchers to finish off the final three innings and preserve Kleven's win.

Shortstop Devin Lohman swung a hot bat for the Threshers, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Center fielder Aaron Brown also had two RBI, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a double. Brown also scored three runs for Clearwater.

Right-hander David Whitehead (1-1, 2.12 ERA) is scheduled to start Saturday for Clearwater, as they continue their series with the Flying Tigers at 6 p.m.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The BlueClaws were able to squeak out a 2-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Friday at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, N.J.

Ranfi Casimiro delivered a strong start for Lakewood to earn his first win of the season. Casimiro struck out six batters and gave up only one run on seven hits over seven innings.

Matt Hockenberry pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.

Right fielder Jiandido Tromp and left fielder Cord Sandberg were both 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Center fielder Carlos Tocci was 1-for-3 and is batting .368 on the season.

The BlueClaws take on the Suns again Saturday at 4:05 p.m. Right-hander Chris Oliver (1-1, 3.60 ERA) is slated to take the hill for Lakewood.
