Phillies Minor League Report: Phillippe Aumont suffers loss for IronPigs

Here's how the Phillies' minor-league teams fared on Monday, August 12:

Lehigh Valley IronPigs – Triple A

The IronPigs fell to the Gwinnett Braves, 5-4, at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Four consecutive singles in the top of the first gave Lehigh Valley a quick 3-0 lead. Shortstop Freddy Galvis, right fielder Steve Susdorf, third baseman Josh Fields (RBI) and first baseman Cody Overbeck (two RBI) strung the hits together.

Sloppy defense behind left-handed starter Tom Cochran hurt the IronPigs, but the team escaped the first with a 3-2 lead.

Lehigh Valley added a run in the second to make the score 4-2. Center fielder Tyson Gillies hit a leadoff single and scored on second baseman Pete Orr's RBI triple.

Cochran again surrendered two runs in the bottom of the second with the aid of an error to tie the game. He allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out four over five innings. Cochran settled for a no-decision.

The game remained tied until the eighth when righty Phillippe Aumont allowed the winning run to cross the plate on two hits, a hitter batter and a walk in the inning.

Galvis (2-for-4 with a run scored and a strikeout), Susdorf (2-for-4 with a run scored) and Gillies (2-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base and two strikeouts) recorded multi-hit games.

Galvis was charged with two of the IronPigs' three errors in the contest.

The loss dropped the IronPigs to 63-61. Lehigh Valley gets an off day Tuesday before returning home to host the Syracuse Chiefs for a three-game series beginning Wednesday.

Reading Fightin Phils – Double A

The Fightin Phils (51-68) were idle Monday.

Reading will host the Binghamton Mets for a three-game set beginning Tuesday with southpaw Jesse Biddle (4-12, 3.76 ERA) on the bump.

Clearwater Threshers – Class A-Advanced

The Threshers were shut out by the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla.

Left-handed starter Hoby Milner (10-6, 4.16 ERA) took the loss after putting his team in an early 3-0 hole after two innings. Milner gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over seven innings.

The Clearwater offense mustered only four hits in the game. Second baseman Carlos Alonso (1-for-4 with a strikeout), designated hitter Chris Serritella (1-for-4), first baseman Brock Stassi (1-for-3 with a double and two strikeouts) and shortstop Jonathan Roof (1-for-3) provided the hits.

That was all the runners that would reach for the Threshers as no one could draw a walk.

The Threshers failed to reach .500 and fell to 56-58. Clearwater will now travel to face the Daytona Cubs for a five-game series to be played over three days. The series will kick off Tuesday with a doubleheader. Starting pitchers have not been announced.

Lakewood BlueClaws – Class A

The BlueClaws (46-71) had an off day on Monday.

Lakewood will travel for a three-game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators beginning Tuesday. Right-hander Jonathan Musser (1-7, 5.35 ERA) is slated to make the start in the opener.

Williamsport Crosscutters - Class A-Short Season

The Crosscutters (25-27) were idle on Monday.

The New York-Penn League All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Buckley (15 appearances, 0-1, 2.61 ERA, 20 2/3 innings pitched, two saves, 20 strikeouts), catcher Gabriel Lino (46 games, .256 batting average 40-for-156, four home runs, 23 RBI), outfielder Jiandido Tromp (33 games, .299 32-for-107, one home run, eight RBI, nine doubles) and third baseman Zach Green (52 games, .267 51-for-191, 10 home runs, 31 RBI, 18 doubles) will represent Williamsport at the game.
