Man charged in shooting that left 1 critical, 1 saved by belt buckle

A man has been charged in a South Philadelphia shooting that left one person in critical condition and another saved by his belt buckle.

Philadelphia police said today that 20-year-old Edward Lyons faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault in the Wednesday afternoon incident.

The shooting happened at about 4 p.m. inside 8 Brothers Food Market near 27th and Tasker streets.

Police allege that Lyons shot a 20-year-old man in the abdomen. That man remains at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Another man was unharmed when a bullet got stuck in his belt buckle, never penetrating his body. The 38-year-old store clerk told 6ABC that he felt "born again" after the incident.

"I didn't feel nothing," Bienvenido Reynoso told the television station.

Lyons was apprehended when officers who were nearby heard gunshots and chased Lyons on foot to the 1400 block of Newkirk Street, a little more than a quarter-mile away.
