Instacart to offer one-hour delivery from Reading Terminal Market

Philadelphia-area residents will soon be able to get groceries and produce from Reading Terminal Market within an hour, without even making a trip to the bustling Center City site.

Philadelphia-area residents will soon be able to get groceries and produce from Reading Terminal Market within an hour, without even making a trip to the bustling Center City site.

The market announced today that a partnership with the food-delivery service Instacart will begin later this fall.

Instacart, which started operating in the region in February, delivers food from participating stores within an hour.

Reading Terminal didn't immediately say which merchants will be working with Instacart when the service launches, but it said the number of vendors available to Instacart customers would expand over time.

"For the first time our customers will be able to get home delivery of products from the Market within an hour," Paul Steinke, the market's general manager, said in a statement. "This service will be a time-saving tool for many shoppers who, due to their busy schedule, geographic location, lack of transportation or other circumstances, may not be able to get to Reading Terminal Market as often as they wish."

Instacart will deliver Reading Terminal goods to customers located in the company's Philadelphia zone, which includes parts of the city, Montgomery County, the Main Line and Upper Darby.

Reading Terminal is targeting a mid-to-late October launch date for Instacart delivery.

Philadelphia shoppers can already get Instacart deliveries of products from stores that include Acme, Whole Foods and Wine and Spirits.
