St. Joseph’s barely wins, 'Nova cruises, Temple falls

Villanova and Saint Joseph's won their first-round NCAA tournament games Friday, but Temple's season is over.

Saint Joseph's surrendered a big lead but hung on to beat Cincinnati, 78-76, in Spokane, Wash., in a contest that ended after midnight in the East. Dick Jerardi and Mike Jensen were courtside to witness the drama.

The Hawks move on to play Oregon in Sunday's second round. Tip time is set for 9:40 p.m. on truTV.

Villanova was the first of Philadelphia's three teams to play Friday and the Wildcats easily defeated the University of North Carolina Asheville, 86-56, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Joe Juliano, Bob Ford and Mike Kern look back at Villanova's big win.

The Temple Owls played in the same building but did not have the same good fortune. The Owls lost when Iowa's Adam Woodbury tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer to give Iowa a 72-70 victory in overtime. Iowa will play Villanova on Sunday at 12:10 p.m. on CBS. Marc Narducci, Bob Brookover and Marcus Hayes weigh in on the tough end to Temple's season.
