Flavor up your week with these 5 food events: Night Market, bars, brunch

This week in food, there's something for everyone.

South Street West kicks off the series of Night Markets this week. A Big Lebowski-themed bar crawl will take place on East Passyunk Avenue. And for those who are a fan of "hair of the dog," Stratus Lounge debuts its brunch menu on Sunday.

No nose-growing here, these specials are real. Beginning Tuesday, May 12 through Saturday, May 16, Pinocchio's (131 Baltimore Ave.) in Media celebrates 60 years in business with a week full of deals including  a 60-cent menu, a 1950s party, family fun days, and more. Returning on Thursday, May 14, the flavors of South Street West (Broad and South Streets) marks the debut of the first Night Market of the spring/summer season. Beginning at 6 p.m., fulfill your food cravings from local eateries including Rex1516, Sbraga, The Quick Fixx, Founding Fathers Sports Bar and Grill, Bistro Romano, The Baker's Jar, and Jet Wine Bar. Live music will be provided by hip-hop artist Joie Kathos, followed by lively tunes from Worldtown. The event is a pay-as-you-go deal.

For a berry educational event: Learn the tricks of preserving unused produce at the Morris Arboretum (100 E. Northwestern Ave.) on Saturday, May 16  as local food blogger and author, Marisa McClellan hosts an interactive culinary class all about canning fruits and veggies. The class is priced at $40 and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. All guests will leave with a recipe list and a glass jar.

On Saturday, May 16 in benefit of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, bars located in East Passyunk line up for a fun bar crawl with a theme of The Dude himself, the Big Lebowski. Starting at noon, grab your bathrobe and enjoy drink specials from Stogie Joe's (1801 E. Passyunk Ave.) and make way toward Lucky 13 (1820 S. 13^th St.), Birra (1700 E. Passyunk Ave.), The P.O.P.E. (1501 E. Passyunk Ave.), Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.), Ray's Happy Birthday Bar (1200 E. Passyunk Ave.), and the Garage (1231-33 E. Passyunk Ave.).

Beginning on Sunday, May 17, make Stratus Lounge (433 Chestnut St.)  your "Sunday Funday" destination with a brand-new brunch deal. From 1 to 5 p.m., guests can enjoy a prix-fixe brunch for $50 that includes a food menu featuring hors d'oeuvres, sushi, flatbreads, dessert stations, and two drink tickets that get you seasonal cocktails. Live entertainment and art exhibits will be featured each Sunday, too.
