What does WWE NXT show in Albany, N.Y. mean for Philadelphia?

The WWE announced Monday that its developmental brand NXT will host a show at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, N.Y. on Saturday, May 16.

While that is significant to fans of NXT in Albany, it is also of importance to fans in Philadelphia that were hoping to see NXT at the 2300 Arena that same weekend.

Back in March, reports surfaced that the WWE was looking to book a pair of shows at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. Although the dates were not locked in and made official, 2300 Arena officials maintained that the talks were ongoing and hinged on the WWE mapping out its touring schedule for that weekend properly.

With Albany getting a show on May 16 that takes away at least one chance for Philadelphia fans to see NXT in person. Whether or not the May 15 date is off the table is not yet known.

The Wrestling Observer reported (by way of Cageside Seats) back in early April that the WWE had scrapped the plans to produce NXT at the 2300 Arena due to the venue being too small. According to the report, the WWE began looking at bigger venues such as the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University.

Attempts to reach officials at the 2300 Arena have been unsuccessful as of this writing. We will update as soon as new information has been made available.
