Roundup: Valentine’s Day fitness events to get your heart pumping

February is the month of love when we obsess over gifts and special nights out for our significant other or we start buying out all the heart-shaped chocolate because we know we will be alone on Valentine’s Day. This year though take a different approach to the holiday.

This year though take a different approach to the holiday. If you are single, show yourself some love with a good workout and who knows maybe a love match will also be in the cards. And if you are already in a relationship, forgo those dinner reservations and the box of chocolates and re-connect with each other instead over some heart-pumping exercise.

Try one of these fun, but healthier alternatives to the traditional Valentine's Days plans.

Valentine's Day Workout & Brunch wth Unite Fitness

The folks at Unite Fitness know how hard it is to meet other like-minded fitness-focused singles so they are playing matchmaker at this singles' event that doubles as a workout. On Saturday, February 14 at noon, you'll start with a 75-minute cross-training event at Unite Fitness in Midtown Village. After sweating it out in class, you will head around the corner to Pennsylvania 6 for brunch and some mingling. The event costs $25 a person and is open to all fitness enthusiasts ages 25 to 40. 5th Annual Singles Fun Run with Philadelphia Runner

If you prefer the open road to the gym, then Philadelphia Runner has the event for you. They are hosting their annual Valentine's Day Singles Fun Run and After Party also on Saturday, February 14 but at 5 p.m. This 3(ish) mile fun run sponsored by Brooks Running will start at the Philadelphia Runner store in Manayunk and will end at Winnie's LeBus. Register for $30, and you will get a Brooks Running t-shirt, DJ, dancing and two drinks and food.

3rd Annual Champagne & Strawberries Yoga at SWEAT Fitness

This is a fun event to enjoy with either your significant other or your BFF. SWEAT Fitness is inviting you to come out for an afternoon of free yoga, sparking champagne and delicious strawberries on Saturday, February 14 starting at 2:14 p.m. Sign up for this special afternoon at one of the following 4  SWEAT Fitness location - Fitler Square, Manayunk, Old City and South Philly. Pure Barre's Love Your Body Day

More of a barre girl? Pure Barre studios across the country will be offering a free class and some goodies through a partnership with Health Magazine on Saturday, February 14. Sign up at the Philadelphia, Main Line, South Jersey or Doylestown studios. The first ever Love Your Body Day will focus on helping women feel healthy and confident and to love their bodies. Don't forget to use the promo code "LOVEYOURBODY" when you register. Also ask about the "pureLove" couples' class in the afternoon for $40.

Romantic Yogalicious Couple's Class at Amrita Yoga

Even couples can partake in some fitness fun with Synergy by Jasmine's Yogalicious couples' classes. Reconnect with your significant other through giggles, movements and massage at Amrita Yoga & Wellness Studio on Friday, February 13 and Saturday, February 14 at 8 p.m. The class will start off with a guided meditation. Pre-registration of $30 per person is required.

Cupid Undie Run

Instead of worrying about what gifts you'll get this Valentine's Day, give back to others by participating in the Cupid Undie Run which raises money for the Children's Tumor Foundation. Do you dare to go half-naked for a good cause? The festivities will take place on Saturday, February 14 at Xfinity Live starting at noon. The run itself will be at 2 p.m. Registration is $55.

2015 Cupid's Chase 5K

Community Options, Inc. is also holding a charity run on Valentine's Day in Fairmount Park. All walkers, runners, joggers and rollers (baby strollers and wheelchairs) are invited to come out to support people with disabilities. Have some fun with wearing either "Available" or "Unavailable" shirts and maybe you will make a heart connection at the race. Registration starts at 8 a.m. with the race commencing at 10 a.m. Early registration is $30.

Feel the Love 5K

This couple's run will test how you and your partner work together. During this unique Valentine's Day race, you and your partner will run in opposite directions, passing each other throughout the course at The Navy Yard. Scoring for the race will consist of a couple's combined final times. After the race, come celebrate at the after party at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia Stadium. Bring in your bib number for one complimentary drink. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Parkinson's Foundation – Jefferson Hospital. Pre-registration starts at 2 p.m. with the 5K race beginning at 3:30 p.m.
