Come play in Manayunk May 16

To help celebrate all things recreation, fitness, and fun, Manayunk is hosting its first ever PLAY Manayunk on Saturday, May 16 at the Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center (VIPARC).

As adults sometimes we forget the importance of play in our own lives, not just in the lives of our children. Play both imaginative and physical is good for our mind and body, so even if you have to schedule it into your already jammed packed schedule, you should make time for it. And this weekend, there will be just the right excuse to play in Manayunk.

To help celebrate all things recreation, fitness, and fun, Manayunk is hosting its first ever PLAY Manayunk on Saturday, May 16 at the Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center (VIPARC).

The day will start at 8 a.m. with the Manayunk Mile, a 1 mile fun run, hosted by Pattison Sports Group, right down Main Street. Open to both kids and adults, preregistration is $25.

After the race, PLAY will officially commence with fun activities for all ages, including kayaking, fishing, biking and nature walks at the VIPARC. The day will also include a lecture series and live music, and for the kids there will be a special Recess area with games, crafts, moon bounce, face painting and a petting zoo.

Manayunk is hoping to make this a record-breaking day by teaming up with Never Give Up Training and New Balance to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most amount of people doing sit ups for one minute at 1 p.m. The previous record stands at 414.

"Over the last few years Manayunk has really become an established destination for fitness and recreation," says Jane Lipton, Executive Director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, "And what could be more fitting (pun intended) that an event that highlights and promotes all these activities."
