Another life destroyed – almost – by allegedly reckless prescribing

"My brother is one of the lucky ones," writes police officer David J. Leahy. He is in prison. But he's alive.

Philadelphia Inquirer story published on Philly.com last weekend about three men who died of drug addictions – and the physician whom their families allege got them hooked – has drawn a lively online discussion as well as heartrending emails from other parents who lost their children to overdoses of prescription drugs or heroin.

It also prompted a Chester County police officer to write a commentary in the West Chester Daily Local about his own brother's journey from pain developed on his job, to that same pain doctor and, eventually, to heroin.

"My brother is one of the lucky ones," writes David J. Leahy of East Fallowfield. He was arrested on heroin-related charges and is now in prison in New Jersey. But he's alive. Read his commentary here or, hopefully, here (depending on your device or browser).
