Spectacle of the Week

Will Wisconsin have its band back when Penn State comes to town?

There are a few big national games this weekend, and Penn State-Wisconsin is definitely one of them. The Nittany Lions could catch a big break even before they take the field in Madison, as it seems quite possible that the Wisconsin band's suspension will still be in effect this weekend.

One of UW's many student newspapers, the

that the band will "practice Tuesday with the understanding they may not perform at this week’s game against Penn State."

ABC is broadcasting NASCAR on Saturday night, so this game will be on ESPN. But ABC does have an afternoon doubleheader, and because of that the whole country gets to see the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma at noon.

That should be a tremendous game, with the Longhorns ranked No. 5 and the Sooners ranked No. 1. It's always one of the year's best atmospheres, with the famed Cotton Bowl split right down the middle between Sooners and Longhorns fans.

The other big national game is a prime time telecast on CBS, LSU at Florida. The Gators' loss to Ole Miss has taken some of the shine off this game, but the Swamp will bring everything it's got to rattle the No. 4-ranked Tigers.

Before Saturday, though, and even before the NLCS starts Thursday night, there's one big thing today that matters to all of us. This is the last day to register to vote in the presidential election

I don't care who you vote for, but I do think that sports are not as important as politics. So we should participate in the process when we have the chance to do so.

If you haven't registered yet, you can find information on how to do so at
