Race of the Week: Flyers 5K

This weekend, Philadelphia Flyers fans will be hitting the pavement around the Wells Fargo Center for the annual Flyers Charities 5K.

The family-friendly race will kick off on October 17 at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Sporting their favorite Flyers gear, runners can race alongside Flyers personalities including President Paul Holmgren, former players Bernie Parent and Todd Fedoruk, Diane Hextall and the Flyers Wives, plus Flyers Ice Girls, and more.

New this year, participants will receive a commemorative medal, a Flyers 5K t-shirt, and a bib with racing chip.

The top male and female runners in each of four age groups will be awarded a pair of game tickets during the Flyers 2015-16 regular season, as well as an autographed hockey stick. Flyers' announcer Lou Nolan will be the emcee of the awards ceremony.

After the race, take the kids over to the Family Fun Area with inflatables, tailgate games and other fun activities.

The event benefits Flyers Charities, a division of Comcast-Spectator Charities, which supports various local non-profit organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area including the ALS Hope Foundation.

Bibs are still available to purchase online for $40 though Wednesday, October 14. Day-of registration will cost $45. For more information, visit PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.
