ODDyssey debuts news cross-training, happy hour program

Running season is about to hit full stride. Soon you'll be busy increasing your mileage for Fall race season. But are you thinking about how you'll add cross-training to your plan, too? Chances are, you probably forgot that crucial piece.

Luckily, the team behind the ODDyssey Half Marathon is partnering with the Uptown Beer Garden to organize a fun and social program to get your cross-training workouts kick started.

The six-week group training program will kick off Monday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Every Monday night, participants will meet at Uptown Beer Garden for a unique cross-training workout hosted by a new running coach each week. Think core work, plyometrics and special attention to the upper body. Coaches include our own On The Run experts, Kristy Campbell, Marcy Gialdo, John Goldthorp, and Gerard Pescatore among others.

"This is your chance to meet them, try out their program and see who fits best for you," said Carl Ewald, director of the ODDyseey Half Marathon.

The program will also introduce you to a new running charity weekly, highlighting ways you can serve your local community. A raffle will feature great prizes like race entries and gear, with all of the proceeds benefitting the selected charities.

I personally can vouch for the program's awesomeness. In Spring, I joined ODDyssey's bridge run program and it was blast. A 4 to 5 mile run, followed by beer specials, raffles and a chance to meet lots of like-minded people. What's not to love?

The program costs just $30 and is limited to 125 runners. All levels are welcome. To register, visit oddysseyhalfmarathon.sportngin.com.

BONUS: Philly.com readers can you promo code "OntheRun" for $10 off if you register before Aug. 21.
