Peters, McNabb and ex-Eagles
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
On Friday, Jason Peters was named to the AP All-Pro first team for the first time in his career.
Peters was dominant and consistent in the run game throughout the season and kept some of the best defensive ends in the league away from Michael Vick.
According to Football Outsiders, Peters allowed just one sack all season (to Jason Taylor). Pro Football Focus has that number at three. But either way, he held up well in pass protection all season under Howard Mudd.
Then there's the issue of penalties. Peters was called for 10 penalties in his first season with the Eagles, drawing the ire of many fans. Last season, he reduced that number to seven. And according to PFF, it was seven again this season. Their numbers show that 22 offensive tackles had more penalties than Peters in 2011, and 31 other tackles had at least seven.
In other words, Peters was above average in that category also.
McNABB ON TV
Donovan McNabb will be a guest analyst on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown tomorrow. We've known for years that McNabb was looking to pursue a career in TV after his playing days were over.
And that time may have very well arrived.
McNabb was released by the Vikings in early December, but apparently no team wanted to sign him for the final stretch of the season. He turned 35 in November. In six starts with the Vikings, McNabb completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 1,026 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Minnesota was just 1-5 in those games before handing the offense over to rookie Christian Ponder.
We'll find out this offseason if any team takes on McNabb as a backup in 2012.
CHECKING IN ON EX-EAGLES
I've seen quite a few ex-Eagles pop up in various articles/lists in recent weeks.
For example, according to Football Outsiders' charting numbers, Dimitri Patterson had an outstanding season with the Browns. His 67 percent success rate was seventh in the NFL among cornerbacks who were targeted at least 28 times.
Chris Sprow put out a list on ESPN.com of the best players per dollar at each position. One of his defensive ends was Chris Clemons, and his outside linebacker was Antwan Barnes.
Clemons has had 11 sacks in each of the past two seasons with the Seahawks. In two seasons with the Eagles (2008-2009), he had seven. The Birds traded Clemons and a fourth-round pick to Seattle for Darryl Tapp.
Barnes only played a couple games with the Eagles back in 2010 before he was released. With the Chargers, he had 11 sacks this season.

Peters is a great one. Could be HOF if he ever gets on a team that accomplishes anything. jtj06
Comment removed.- Don't care about his criminal history I care about the fact that he can not play QB in this league. His stats and success or lack thereof support that.

This comments section is a prime example why the people of Philadelphia are just miserable people. 18 comments and only one of them was made for a current player, to applaud his season. The rest was to complain about guys who previously played here. Ridiculous. Can't appreciate anything you have but can only negatively focus on what you don't. Typical Philly. beegal99
How ironic is it that Garcia is on a playoff roster, but McNabb doesn't have a team to play for. I don't think he's all that great as a commentator either. Doesn't really have the voice for it. As far as a backup, he was relegated to backup status the last 2 years, and all he did was complain. What coach needs that? watsonmr
And you armchair QB should understand the other divisions are not as tough as the EAST. With our record this season and if we were in the West we would be in the playoffs and you know it. Vick IS a great QB and he wants the big game as much as anyone. McNabb is great too, I wish they didn't trade him but...money talks. Need more protection for Vick and we have it. Next season 13 and 3, Eagles vs 49ers in Bowl. Mark my words. Showtime226- Vick had protection, he held onto the ball too long and ran from pressure that was not there into sacks. Vick can't beat anything but bad teams, he never has. He is a turnover machine who doesn't think his lead leading turnovers were the reason this team struggled this year. Vick is great you say, but you don't back it up.

mcnabb will be lol on tv. he tries too hard to say something important and sound intelligent. bloodymess
Showtime226, you do realize the eagles were 1-3 vs. the NFC West this season. If they were in that division they would have had a losing record. And PS, unless Goodell is planning on re-aligning the leagues the Eagles and 49ers are in the same conference and can't play in 'Bowl'...Do you even watch football? TXEaglesFan
It appears it was the coaching on the Defensive Line. Mike Paterson played brilliantly this year under the new coach. The Linebacker coach needs to be thoroughly evaluated before next season. Dexter
I'm an Eagles Fan who is glad we have Vick instead of holding on to Kevin Kolb. Matched up against all the other QBs in the League the Eagles could have gotten at some point or the other, Vick is a great bargain.
Vick is as accomplished as Tony Romo or Phillip Rivers or god forbid, Matt Cassell. I'm ok with Vick over Eli Manning within the Division.
Who would you want other than Brady, Rogers, Brees and Big Ben? Even at 8 and 8 football is good in Philly, it's just you guys don't know it, Andy has spoiled you.
I've been an Eagles Fan 50 years, I know better.

McNabb-- forever hated; scorn eternally deserved Ashburn072
You usually do a thorough job. There seem to be many ex eagles playing around the league and many would be eagles if the team had drafted them when they had a chance (hard not to think of Piere Paul as an eagle). How about an updated comparison of all these players and their replacements or "drafted instead"? frd
I can see in now. Don sitting there being asked how horrible it was in Philly and how we didn't love him. It's going to be unwatchable. delcodanno
