Carolina Chocolate Drops at the TLA

Old time string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops play the Theater of Living Arts on Thursday night. Last year's Genuine Negro Jig won the best traditional folk Grammy last month, just a couple of weeks after there was a shakeup in the lineup of the outfit, which is now a quartet, with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Justin Robinson and the addition of two new members. The group has a new 4 song EP out with the New York gyspy punk band Luminescent Orchestrii. Below, the original Piedmont folk trio of Rhiannon Giddens, Dom Flemons and Robinson do their left-field calling card hit, a remake of Blu Cantrell's R & B revenge song "Hit 'Em Up Style."
