Like A Bank That's Already Been Robbed

Randy Newman plays the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood on Sunday. This past Sunday, he won a best song Oscar for "We Belong Together" from Toy Story 3. The sardonic piano man gave the best acceptance speech of the night - "I want to be good television so bad, as you can see" - then carried it over to the backstage press room when, according to a New York Times report, upon being asked by a college reporter for tips about breaking into the music business, he quipped: "Who would want to break into it? It's like a bank that's already been robbed." A preview from Friday' Inquirer is here. The Randy Newman Songbook, Vol. 2 comes out in May. Below, "Louisiana 1927."
