Three Philadelphia cancer researchers have been named to the blue ribbon panel that will help shape the direction and goals of Vice President  Biden's "cancer moonshot" initiative.

The panel will serve as a working group of President Obama's National Cancer Advisory Board, which in turn will make recommendations to the National Cancer Institute.

The institute this week announced 28 panel members, including:

  1. Chi Van Dang, director of the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

  2. Edith Mitchell, professor of oncology and a researcher at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University.

  3. Peter Adamson, professor and director of experimental cancer therapeutics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Obama announced Biden's moonshot initiative during  his State of the Union address. The panel appointed this week will consider how to advance its strategies for  prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including vaccines, genomic profiling, and enhanced data sharing.
