Now a Dem, Specter facing union pressure

The Associated Press reports:

WASHINGTON — A pro-union group has started running television ads in Pennsylvania pressuring Sen. Arlen Specter to support passage of a union-friendly organizing bill.

The 30-second spot from American Rights at Work reminds voters that the Republican-turned-Democrat backed the Employee Free Choice Act two years ago. An announcer asks if Specter will side with the president or with big business.

Specter has said he didn't necessarily support the bill in 2007, but agreed that it should not be stalled through a filibuster. Specter is facing pressure from unions to back the bill in exchange for their support for his re-election bid.

The ads are expected to run through the end of the month.
