Kids with Nazi-themed middle names in state custody

The three New Jersey children with Nazi-themed middle names have been placed in the custody of the state, police said. Holland Township Police Sgt. John Harris workers from the state Division of Youth and Family Services removed 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell and his younger sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell. Harris, who as there to keep order on Tuesday, says DYFS did not tell police the reason the children were removed. DYFS spokeswoman Kate Bernyk says the child-welfare agency does not comment on specific cases. The children and their parents, Heath and Deborah Campbell, received attention last month when a northwestern supermarket bakery refused to put Adolf Hitler Campbell’s name on a birthday cake. give 'em time. I'm sure they'll figure out some way to blame us "evil liberals" for this.

I blame Obama! (Just kidding) I remember hearing the parents saying that WWII happened so long ago that it shouldn't be a problem. Are these people high? Seriously, it's one thing if you wish to make a statement with yourself, but to stigmatize your kids and turn them into outcasts is deplorable! I hope they do have their names changed...

Isn't this a violation of free speech? I'm assuming at this point that the middle names are the sole reason for the children's removal (I could be wrong, parts of the story seem missing). From my understanding, one can use any name as long as it's not intended to be used for confusing or fraudulent purposes. They're not names I would ever consider, but it seems as if the parents have that right. I also believe the store had every right to refuse to decorate a cake with those names.

I thought they weren't allowed to mention kids names like that?

A corollary to my previous statement: I also believe that the children in question should have every legal right to contest their naming in family court if they so choose. Usually, courts adhere to a legal principle of "what's best for the child's interests," so they should grant a child's wish in the matter.

Not that I think it is right to use these names but I smell a legal battle.

Boy, Heath and Deborah sound like great parents, don't they? I mean, it's not like they're setting up their kids to be social pariahs the entire rest of their lives or anything. Certainly, these kids will be well-adjusted and will never have to see the inside of a psychiatrist's office. By the way, who puts their kid's middle name on a birthday cake anyway? Answer - nobody. If they just asked for "Happy birthday Adolph", nobody would even know about the kid's ridiculous middle name. But good ole' Heath and Debbie wanted some attention. They got it, and now everyone knows they are morons. Congratulations!
