Fire Marshal's report on SW Philly blaze delayed
he Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of Friday’s blaze in Southwest Philadelphia that killed seven people, a fire official said this morning and will not release its report today, said Capt. Richard Davison.
The blaze was apparently was set off by a mishandled kerosene heater in the three-story brick twin in the 6400 block of Elmwood Avenue.
A basement stairway had been removed during recent renovations, leaving only one exit for the victims.
Four adults and three children were killed in the late-night fire.
Two funds have been set up to collect money for the the victims.
Donations to help pay for the funeral of the children may be made by mail with a check payable to Michelle Dosso, the children’s mother, c/o Alexandra Beljin, TD Bank, University City Branch Manager, 3735 Walnut St., Philadelphia 19104; or in person at any TD Bank to the Michelle Dosso.
Beljin said the fund is in a private account and she could not reveal how much has been donated.
Another fund has been established by the Liberian Association of Pennsylvania. Shiwoh Kamara, president of the association, said his group is raising money to help all the families involved and would distribute the money based on each family’s needs. He said the association has collected about $2,000 so far.
