Daniel O'Hern, ex-justice on NJ Supreme Court, dies

Former New Jersey Supreme Court Associate Justice Daniel O’Hern died in his Red Bank home yesterday.

The Associated Press reports:

Former New Jersey Supreme Court Associate Justice Daniel O'Hern, 78, died in his Red Bank home yesterday.

His family tells the Asbury Park Press that Mr. O'Hern had metastatic melanoma of the brain.

Mr. O'Hern was appointed to the court by Gov. Brendan T. Byrne in 1981 and served for 19 years.

He participated in the 1988 "Baby M" decision that banned surrogate-mother contracts and the 1995 ruling that upheld Megan's Law.

Mr. O'Hern is survived by his wife and five children.
