Building a playground - indoors

A large corner of the Liacouras Center is occupied by dozens of people building a playground set out of plastic wood, a building material produced from recycled plastic waste. It is one of  the MLK Day of Service events underway here on the Temple University campus.

Philadelphia, a charter school on Broad near Girard streets. According to its web site, the program provides high school dropouts with a chance to earn their diplomas while also learning job skills.

“We have 200 students here for service today” said Jenkins. As part of their charter school experience, students are obligated to complete 900 hours of service a year, said Jenkins. A large number of adults are also helping build the playground.

This spring it will be installed at the Winchester Recreation Center at 2332 N 15th St.

Our unique, one-year program provides high school dropouts with a chance to earn their diplomas while learning vital job skills and providing valuable community services.
