'NCIS: LA' star keeping it cool, 140 characters at a time

You don't get nearly 1.5 million Twitter followers without knowing how to turn a phrase. And "NCIS: Los Angeles" star LL Cool J (@llcoolj) was doing just that yesterday at a panel CBS cooked up to showcase some of its top tweeters, including "Survivor" host Jeff Probst, "NCIS" star Pauley Perrette and two writers from "The Good Wife" who share the handle @GoodWifeWriters. In the future, suggested LL Cool J -- who also answers to Todd -- "privacy will be the new fame." "I like how you held the moment," said an admiring Probst. "Say it again and let's just let it breathe." And then he added: "What does that mean, though?" "What it means is that everybody knows everything about everything," replied the actor. "Every little kid -- everybody knows everything. They're on Facebook -- everybody knows everything. . . There'll be a point when privacy will be the new fame." He also thinks it might be one reason some people are uncomfortable with politicians who are too "plugged in" to their iPhones and Blackberries, potentially sharing too much. "This is changing the rules. It's almost to the point where everybody is gonna need a publicist." Though not perhaps Perrette (@PauleyP), who after some initial reluctance, has embraced Twitter wholeheartedly. She does have rules, and they're not just her rules. "I'm with LAPD stalking squad," said Perrette, who's reportedly had a stalker problem in the past. "I'm one of their greatest clients." One of the rules: "I don't retweet and I don't respond…but I am responding. I'm reading." Her rules by now are well enough known among her nearly 128,000 followers that newbies often hear the explanation about the LAPD from other followers. "So that takes the pressure off me a little bit."
