Ratings news: Numbers for Fox’s ‘Utopia’ plummet

The new reality show dips severely in regularly scheduled timeslot

Utopia? Not if ratings are any indication. The new Fox reality show, in which 15 strangers create their own microsociety, may look more like Lonely Town.

The series got off to a disappointing start with its special Sunday night premiere, drawing 4.6 million viewers and notching a 1.9 rating among 18-49 year olds. And that was after an NFL lead in.

When Utopia moved to one of its regular time slots last night, the wheels fell off. (Fox is using the series to kick off Tuesday and Friday nights). The audience dropped 54 per cent, to 2.5 million. In the same time period, Big Brother on CBS had an audience of 6.8 million.

Ratings dropped too, to a .9 in the 18-34 demographic. That's a distressing 53 per cent decline.

Something smells rotten in paradise.
