What if I told you there's a first-place Philly team that may win it all this fall

I believe, like our president, that we should be looking forward, not backward (at least when it comes to sports as opposed to torture).
So I'm looking forward to watching the MLS Cup parade down Broad Street....in Chester. Does Chester even have a Broad Street?
Blogging this week may be lighter than you or I could have imagined -- I could tell you why but then I'd have to virtually kill you.

If the Unions win their league title, they still haven't won squat. It's only soccer. SteveMG- Will, when are you heading to the River End? We need to get your pic as you're waving a Gadsden flag. Come on the U!!!!! venus4
They have professional soccer? Where? kelprod2- Phillies? Eagles? NBA lockout? No meaningful Flyers game until April? Face it people, this is the only game in town. will
I played soccer an I cannot watch it. Go Flyers Keep The Change
How come we could never look forward when Bush was president? The liberal whack jobs lived in the past. Keep The Change
"What if I told you there's a first-place Philly team that may win it all this fall....". I'd tell you nobody cares.Pretty obvious from the posts. Kinda like your politics-nothing of substance. georgel
BTW_pitchers and catchers report Feb. 19. Probably before we get the Solyndra or fast and furious and lying AG post.Of course the Eagles will win the super Bowl before Bunch "mans up" on those. georgel

Can you imagine if Bush/Cheney were responsible for Fast and Furious? Bunch and the NY Times would have written about it 74747784848483838747744883 times -that is a fact. Keep The Change

I was too focused on watching the Union win on Saturday, so maybe the Philly sports fans can fill me in.
Did anyone get the score of the Eagles game yesterday? I missed Friday's Phillies game, too. Ryan Howard has two good legs, right?

GO Philly Union soccer! the games are fun to watch. Good article on the tax code and those paying taxes, we discuss it a lot, but is seems those whom understand the tax code make out best. http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/story/2011-10-06/income-tax-nonpayment/50676912/1 Fisher
I find it hard to root for a game where I had the fundamentals of it down pat in third grade. General Turgidson
Keep the narrow minded flowing, it makes me feel great. Wouldn't have haters if we didn't have game. joeyT
I do not get it with these posters, why do they always have to be so negative? The only time they are positive is when something awful is happening to the majority of Americans.
Union is the best soccer we can get live, yes it is only a feeder league or retirement league for the European leagues but they are our team and going to the game is great and the crowd is great. GO UNION! DavidAG
"Bunch of B.S."-of course the President doesn't want ANYONE to look "backward". If they do they will realize that the new "Jobs program" already failed and now he wants to do it again....what is it?: "repeating the same thing over and over and expecting different results"??? LOL!!! sarah89
First off, "attitude" is spelled the way in which I just did. Not the moronic way you spell it. Second, is there something mentally wrong with you? I think there just might be. And BRAVO to your employers for employing you while you obviously have these mental issues that make you insult and snub a HUGE fan-base of Philadelphia soccer fans. Wonder if this will effect your companies "bottom line?" (And, in effect, your own "bottom line.") I know that I will never log on to Philly.com again. (or BUY anything affiliated with Philly.com in the future). In any event... what is the motive to bash the Union? Does it make you... an overweight... middle-aged sports reporter feel better about yourself? Well... KUDOS! You can feel great knowing that you bash the only true athletes in Philadelphia. Yes, the ONLY athletes. Try having any other "athlete" run for 90 minutes non-stop). If they can accomplish this and have the coordination, field awareness & vision... while running with a soccer ball... passing... shooting... scoring goals. Let's put it this way... if they can successfully play the "beautiful" game for 90 minutes... then fine... you can say all the nasty things you want about the Union. Until THEN & only then... keep your comments to yourself about the Union. You are not selling any "news" by being insulting and ostracizing potential customers. Last (but not least), it's not the Union's fault that every other Philly team fell flat despite all the "hype." trishp
ahh trishp, I have to come to Will's defense, but he is not the one bashing the Union...it's the rest of us. I can't believe I just defended Will. Now what???? georgel
I was hoping Will would elabprate on his being a fellow with Media Matters. Sounds like his " reporting" could be a little biased, like he accuses Fox News of. Bush3
trishp is a big stakeholder in BIMBO. Or maybe she didn't tease the Eagles line yesterday. A Friend
sorry trishp, having played many sports, I can tell you there are many that are far more demanding physically than soccer. Nobody on the pitch actually runs for 90 minutes. There is a ton of walking and standing around. In fact, a one or two minute shift on the ice in hockey, or a 6 minute wrestling match, expends far more energy than 90 minutes of soccer. Won't even get into what a BS claim it is to call soccer "beautiful" Mr. Baseball
The problem with that is that just because you "played soccer", doesn't mean you played to excel or to win. There are millions of people who 'played soccer' as kids in the 80s, who still have only the most primitive notion of what the game is about.
Yes, nobody sprints for 90 minutes, because it isn't humanly possible, but once you get to a more competitive level of play, the guy who comes closer to that is going to have a pronounced advantage, and running the opponent into the ground is a pretty time-honored way of playing when you get to club level/college and so on. (It's actually kind of sad, because this is too time-honored a way for teams with less skill to hang in games against more skilled opponents.) joeyT
