Wings suffer first loss to Knighthawks

The Philadelphia Wings fell to East Division rivals, the Rochester Knighthawks, suffering their first loss of the 2014 campaign with a 13-9 defeat.

Rochester's Dan Dawson, a former Wing, pounded in the first score, making it an earl 1-0 lead. Free agent acquisition Ryan Ward evened things up, however, and the quarter ended knotted at three. The Knighthawks tore into the second quarter, parading down the field for seven straight goals, dominating Philadelphia for a 9-3 deficit going into halftime.

The Wings finally got their acts together and went on a rampage of their own in the second half, scoring six unanswered points, putting them in position to tie, down by one.

In the last three minutes of play, however, the Knighthawks put three more goals on the board, silenced the Wings, and improved to 2-0 for sole possession of first lace in the East Division. Cody Jameison and Craig Point joined Dawson in owning the Wings, with the three of them combining for 19 of the team's 32 total points (8 goals, 11 assists).

The Wings got some solid contributions from Kevin Ross, Jordan Hall, and Kyle Buchanan. Buchanan led the team in points with six (2 goals, 4 assists). Jordan Hall has scored at least two goals in each game this season. Evan Kirk reached a career milestone by recording his 600th career, regular season save.

The Philadelphia Wings host the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center for their 2014 season home opener on Sunday, January 12, at 4 p.m.
